1. Basic Qaida. Arabic alphabet recognition, vowel marks (harakat: fatha, kasra, damma), joining forms, tanween, shaddah, and madd — taught through the Noorani Qaida or Yassarnal Quran primer. Entry level for children ages 5+ and adult beginners. Duration: 3 months. See the Basic Qaida Course for Beginners

2. Yassarnal Quran. Progressive reading from the Yassarnal Quran primer to short Surahs of Juz Amma. Bridges Qaida completion and independent Quran reading. Duration: 3–4 months.

4. Tajweed (Shia method). Full tajweed correction per the Shia recitation tradition — makhraj, sifaat, noon sakin, meem sakin, 6 madd types, waqf. Duration: 6–12 months. See the Shia Tajweed Course Online

5. Quran Memorization (Hifz). Structured sabaq, sabqi, and manzil schedule. Full Quran (3–5 years) or selective Surahs (6–12 months). See the Shia Quran Memorization (Hifz) Course Online

11. Fiqh and Quran. Integrated 6-month course: 3 modules, 72 sessions combining Quranic recitation with Ja’fari jurisprudence.

How Are Shia Quran Courses Organized by Level?

Courses are organized into 3 levels: Beginner (Basic Qaida, Yassarnal Quran, Recitation), Intermediate (Tajweed, Translation, Prayer and Ahkam), and Advanced (Hifz, Tafseer, Nahjul Balagha, Fiqh and Quran) — with a free level assessment determining the student’s starting point. A student does not self-select their level; the teacher confirms the appropriate entry point in the free trial session based on the recitation check and Islamic knowledge assessment.

Beginner Level — Basic Qaida, Yassarnal Quran, Recitation

Beginner level courses are for students who have never read Arabic, are returning to Quran study after a long gap, or can read but have not formally studied any course structure. Basic Qaida takes a student from the Arabic alphabet to joining letters in short words — typically 3 months at 3 sessions per week. Yassarnal Quran progresses from the primer to short Surahs — typically 3 to 4 months. Recitation consolidates fluent reading before the student enters the Intermediate level. A student who completes all 3 Beginner courses is ready to begin Tajweed with correct reading habits already established.

Intermediate Level — Tajweed, Translation, Prayer and Ahkam

Intermediate level courses are for students who already read the Quran and want to improve recitation quality, understand what they recite, or learn the Ja’fari method of daily prayer. Tajweed is the primary Intermediate course — 6 to 12 months of live correction against the Shia recitation tradition. Quran with Translation adds concurrent English understanding verse by verse. Prayer and Ahkam is for students who want to perform Salah correctly per their chosen Marja’s ruling. A student can take 1, 2, or all 3 Intermediate courses simultaneously in parallel 1-on-1 tracks.

Advanced Level — Hifz, Tafseer, Nahjul Balagha, Fiqh and Quran

Advanced level courses require Intermediate-level recitation competence — a student must recite from the Quran with acceptable tajweed before beginning Tafseer or Hifz. Hifz is open to students at any age who have completed Tajweed and have a teacher-confirmed recitation standard. Tafseer requires a student who can read the Arabic text and follow the exegetical discussion. Nahjul Balagha requires the same. Fiqh and Quran requires Basic Qaida completion as its minimum and builds from Tahara through practical Ahkam across 3 modules.

How Long Does Each Shia Quran Course Take?

Course durations range from 3 months (Basic Qaida, Recitation) to 12 or more months (Hifz, advanced Tafseer), with each course structured as weekly sessions delivering a defined syllabus module — and a completion certificate issued when the teacher confirms the milestone is reached. Duration is a range, not a fixed date: every student progresses at the pace their teacher confirms.

Do Shia Quran Courses Come with Certification?

All 11 courses include a completion certificate issued by Momineen Quran Center on successful completion of the final assessment, signed by the lead Shia scholar and stating the course name, level, completion date, and teacher’s name. The certificate is not issued at enrollment or mid-course — it is issued when the teacher confirms the student has reached the defined milestone and the academic head countersigns.

Certification milestones are defined per course. Basic Qaida completion is confirmed when the student reads a defined passage at a standard the teacher certifies. Tajweed completion is confirmed when the student recites a defined passage applying all tajweed rules correctly without teacher correction. Hifz milestones are issued per juz — a certificate for each juz memorized, with a final full-Quran certificate at program end. Tafseer milestones are issued per Surah or Juz section covered in the Al-Mizan sequence.

Certificates name the teacher’s credentials — the Hawza institution or equivalent — so the student’s certificate reflects not only their own achievement but the authority of the teacher who confirmed it.

How Are Shia Quran Courses Different from Sunni-General Quran Courses?

Shia Quran courses differ from Sunni-general online Quran courses in 4 specific ways: tajweed rules follow the Ja’fari recitation tradition, tafseer uses Shia scholarly sources (Al-Mizan, Majma al-Bayan), course content integrates Imam-sourced duas, and the teacher methodology is grounded in Hawza-educated scholarship. These 4 differences affect every lesson, every correction, and every supplementary text across all 11 courses.

1. Tajweed follows the Ja’fari recitation tradition. The Shia recitation tradition preserves specific makhraj applications and waqf conventions transmitted through the Ahlul Bayt. A Shia tajweed teacher corrects toward the Ja’fari standard, not the Hafs-an-Asim recitation most Sunni-default courses use. Students who previously studied Tajweed under a Sunni-default course receive a recitation audit in the free trial to identify which habits need reorientation. 2. Tafseer uses Shia scholarly sources. The Tafseer course is taught from Al-Mizan fi Tafsir al-Quran by Allama Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Tabataba’i — a 27-volume Shia exegetical work drawing on narrations from the 12 Imams. Supporting references include Majma al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Quran by Allama al-Tabarsi and Tafseer al-Burhan. Sunni-general courses typically use Tafseer Ibn Kathir, Tafseer al-Tabari, or Tafseer al-Jalalayn — none of which reference Shia narrations or the Ahlul Bayt’s transmitted exegesis.

3. Courses integrate Imam-sourced duas. Quranic recitation is taught alongside the duas and supplications transmitted through the 12 Imams — Dua Kumayl from Imam Ali (AS), Sahifa Sajjadiya from Imam Sajjad (AS), Dua Tawassul, and the daily supplications of the Ahlul Bayt. A Sunni-general course teaches Quran recitation as a standalone skill; a Shia Quran course teaches it as one component of a practice that includes Ahlul Bayt supplications and Ja’fari fiqh.

4. Teacher methodology is grounded in Hawza scholarship. Momineen Quran Center teachers hold credentials from Hawza Najaf, Hawza Qom, or Hawza Mashhad — or equivalent Islamic university degrees with Shia specialization. When a student asks a theological question in a Shia Quran course — about Imamat, Taqlid, the Marja system, or the Quranic basis of a Ja’fari ruling — the teacher answers from primary Shia scholarly sources.

Frequently Asked Questions About Shia Quran Courses

9 frequently asked questions cover course selection guidance, level assessment, certification, scheduling, teacher assignment, fee structure, free trial, progress tracking, and course switching.

How do I know which course to start with?

The free trial class includes a level assessment identifying the student’s starting point across 4 criteria: Arabic letter recognition, recitation fluency, tajweed awareness, and Islamic knowledge level. The teacher recommends the 1 or 2 courses most appropriate and provides a written 4-week starting plan before any payment is requested.

Can I take more than one course at the same time?

A student can take 2 or 3 courses simultaneously in parallel 1-on-1 tracks — each in its own dedicated session with its own milestone tracking. The most common combinations are Tajweed alongside Quran with Translation, and Basic Qaida alongside Islamic Studies for reverts.

Do all courses issue a completion certificate?

All 11 courses issue a completion certificate at each defined milestone — confirmed by the teacher and countersigned by the academic head. The certificate names the course, milestone, completion date, and teacher’s credential. Certificates are delivered as a digital PDF to the student’s registered email and as a printable document.

Can I reschedule sessions around work or prayer times?

Sessions are scheduled around the student’s work, school, and prayer timetable across EST, PST, GMT, CET, AEST, and Gulf Standard Time. Rescheduling with 24 hours notice carries no fee. Prayer time blocks can be set in the scheduling system before confirming the weekly timetable.

Can I choose my teacher for a specific course?

A student can request a specific teacher by name if that teacher has available slots in the relevant course track. The academic head recommends the closest alternative by credential and specialization if the requested teacher is fully booked. The free trial is always conducted with the proposed assigned teacher.

What does each course cost?

All 11 courses are available across the same 3 monthly packages — Starter ($40–$50/month, 3 sessions/week), Standard ($70–$85/month, 5 sessions/week), and Premium ($100–$120/month, daily sessions). The course itself does not change the package fee. See full Shia Quran Classes Fees and Packages →

Is there a free trial before I commit to a course?

Yes — every course enrollment begins with a free 45-minute trial class. The trial includes a level assessment, course recommendation, and written 4-week plan. No credit card is taken at booking.

How is progress tracked across a course?

Progress is tracked through 3 channels: written progress notes after every session, a monthly summary on the 1st of each month, and the milestone certificate record. Parents of child students also receive a weekly summary every Friday.

Can I switch from one course to another mid-enrollment?

A student can switch courses at any billing cycle boundary. The prior course’s progress is recorded and its completion certificate is issued for any milestones already confirmed. The new course begins with a level assessment by the assigned teacher in the first session of the new enrollment period.
